REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE / FOOD & BEVERAGE
Pioneering a low-cost wastewater treatment solution for food production facilities.
An inventive, low-budget approach combined source reduction, targeted treatment, monitoring, training, and management controls—then expanded across multiple facilities.
Variable operations were creating permit and business risk.
A high-volume food operation faced BOD and FOG violations, changing discharge flow and chemistry, gaps in its compliance program, and the possibility of enforcement or production disruption. The operation was large enough to require active wastewater treatment, but not large enough to support a DAF system or other major capital improvements.
Invent a right-sized solution, then build the controls around it.
Joshua invented, pioneered, and instituted a practical treatment approach for a low-budget site. The work combined data review and root-cause investigation with source reduction, production-process changes, targeted pretreatment improvements, sampling and monitoring, operator procedures, training, and management oversight. Coordination with permit authorities kept the response credible and aligned.
- Characterized variability and likely loading sources
- Implemented right-sized treatment and operational controls
- Established monitoring and response expectations
- Built procedures, training, and accountability
A durable program that could scale.
The solution helped return or maintain compliance without a DAF system or major capital upgrade, reduced regulatory and cost exposure, avoided operational disruption, and created a repeatable management system. The solution was ultimately expanded across multiple facilities.
